January Meeting: Tuesday 21 January 8pm – T’ai Chi Taster with instructor Anne Marie Franklin

T’ai chi chuan is a gentle form of exercise with strong emphasis on mental and physical relaxation. When our mind and body relaxes a natural healing process can commence.

In our session we will do a short warm up with a few Qi gong, stationary breathing and movement exercises that will energise as well as relax the body.

We will learn a few movements from the first part of the Yang style, long form Tai chi ch’uan . This will give you a taster of what is involved and how it feels to be moving connected to your natural breath. The combination of mindful body awareness and movement synchronised with our breath helps release physical tensions. Which then transforms that tension into free flowing energy around the body which improves our circulation of blood to our major organs.

You don’t need any special equipment to do Tai chi, just loose comfortable clothing, flat shoes and some water to stay well hydrated.

Anna is always very aware of her participant’s health and will ask if you have any problems. There will be a participation form to complete on the night. If you have health problems that mean you need to see a doctor before doing exercise, you can ask them to complete a doctor’s approval form.

8pm at the Prince Regent Pub.

New Year, New Program of WI Events

The Committee have been busy getting everyone’s ideas and turning them into a calendar of meetings for the year.  The program kicks off (gently) in January as we attempt to make up for some of the Christmas excesses by treating mind, body and spirit to some Tai Chi (or was it only me who ate far too many mince pies?).  Later in the year we will be aiming to reduce our impact on the environment by making our own beeswax wraps and giving our old clothes a new lease of life. We’ll be doing hand loom weaving, learning about local history, tasting some cheeky tipples and doing some more Christmas crafting, so there should be something for everyone to enjoy.  We are still finalizing details for some evenings, so it is not too late to let us know if you have an idea for a speaker or activity.

To sign up for 2020, existing members should bring £43 to the January meeting, or transfer money to Brockwell Park WI Account Number 63612562, Sort Code 20-21-80 using your name as the reference. We are currently accepting new members, who can sign up at the January meeting – just come along on 21 January.

December Meeting: Tuesday 10 December 8pm – Christmas Wreathes

Christmas wreath making has become a bit of a Brockwell Park WI tradition and, once again, Mauny and Tamsin did us proud with a pre-dawn visit to the flower market to collect a fantastic array of holly, ivy, and everything else we needed. We made our wreaths more eco friendly this year, using wicker bases, rather than wire, but the creations everyone went home with were no less impressive than previous years.

We continued our fundraising for Refuge and raised almost £130 to help their much needed work.
