July Meeting: Lost Effra Walk – Tuesday 16 July, 8pm

Have you ever wondered how Brixton Water Lane or Effra Road got their names?

Join us on a walk in and around Brockwell Park, led by writer and urban historian Dr Tom Bolton, author of London’s Lost Rivers to hear about the history of the River Effra, how it was lost and its modern-day legacy.

The River Effra is one of South London’s largest lost rivers and one of a number that have been placed in tunnels or diverted into the sewer system.  But while they may be hidden from view, traces remain for those who know where to look.

We will be meeting at 8pm at the Prince Regent as usual and then setting off on a 45min walk (rain or shine) heading along Dulwich Road to the main gate then in and around the Park, returning to the pub for Pimms and nibbles.

FREE for members, £5 for non-members.
